Dr. William T. Shimeall is a board-certified internal medicine specialist with 30 years of experience in clinical medicine, medical education, and health system leadership. He brings a patient-centered, evidence-based approach shaped by decades in complex healthcare systems. Dr. Shimeall chose to practice at Sage Health because of its commitment to team-based, preventive care and meaningful time with patients.

Experience

Early in his Navy career, Dr. Shimeall served in the Office of the Attending Physician to the U.S. Congress, providing primary and emergency care for national leaders. He later returned to Bethesda as an academic internist and educator, helping develop interdisciplinary chronic care models while teaching medical students and residents. His military service also included extended operational leadership roles in the Middle East.
