GULFPORT, MS (April 5, 2024) — Sage Health invites all local seniors to “Cooking with Sage,” a healthy living culinary demonstration led by esteemed Mississippi native Chef Nick Wallace. This exclusive event offers attendees how to cook with fresh, healthy ingredients, health-conscious shopping tips, and healthy eating habits.

You can learn more about the event and Chef Nick Wallace.

The event will be held at the Sage Health Gulfport clinic in the Hardy Court Shopping Center on Saturday, April 6. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., with Chef Wallace’s cooking demonstration beginning at 11 a.m.

“I couldn’t be more excited to partner with Sage Health in this demonstration,” said Wallace. “Healthy cooking with local ingredients is important for overall health but an improvised recipe doesn’t have to lose the soul of the dish.  I’m proud to be able to do my part to teach others about how the food we know and is a part of our culture can be adapted to healthier eating habits.”

Wallace is a Mississippi native and culinary star renowned for his innovative approach to cooking. He has won numerous accolades including Best Chef of Mississippi and has made guest appearances on shows such as Bravo’s “Top Chef,”. He was the winner of Chopped Season 34 and has appeared on numerous other shows and media outlets.

Wallace credits his grandmothers for instilling in him a deep love for cooking from an early age. Combining his family farm roots with French techniques, his passion for culinary arts has led him to serve as an Executive Chef for some of the country’s most prestigious museums and hotels.

In addition to his national fame, Wallace also founded his own non-profit organization – Creativity Kitchen – to give back to his local community. They have worked with Jackson Public Schools in Jackson, Miss. to help provide better tasting and healthier foods to students that attend these schools.  The non-profit has also worked with Whole Food’s 5% Community Giving Program to put money back into the community by donating to the local elementary schools.

“Sage Health is not your typical doctor’s office,” said Sage Health Founder & CEO John Haskell. “We take seniors’ healthcare personally, and we want to make sure seniors get the level of healthcare they deserve.”

During the “Cooking with Sage,” event, attendees will have the privilege of witnessing Chef Wallace’s techniques and learning about easily attainable healthy eating resources. The first 75 seniors in attendance will have the opportunity to sample a delicious dish prepared by Wallace.

“Nutrition is a big part of overall wellness,” said Haskell. “We also understand that meals are about much more than just food. We are excited for this Cooking with Sage event and hope that seniors leave with knowledge about healthy eating and resources but even more so healthy living.”

Sage Health’s Gulfport clinic is located at 117 Hardy Court Shopping Center. Seniors can learn more about the “Cooking with Sage” event and RVSP by calling (228) 227-5533.
